Corus International announced it has received a $6.4 million grant from Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited to help reduce climate-related health risks in Nepal. Corus was selected as part of Takeda’s 2026 Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The company issued a press release announcing all the awardees and the scope of its program.
Corus is a leading global non-governmental humanitarian assistance and development organization based in Washington, D.C. The grant provides Corus with five years of support for a first-of-its-kind initiative to help communities in Nepal anticipate and respond to climate-related health threats before they become crises.
Corus International President and CEO Ambassador Daniel Speckhard said, “This innovative program shows what’s possible when the private sector and nonprofits come together to solve some of the world’s most consequential challenges. We are deeply grateful to Takeda and its employees for their partnership and commitment to building climate-resilient health systems in Nepal. Together, we’re helping communities strengthen the infrastructure, preparedness and health technologies they need to anticipate and respond to climate-related health threats. This partnership demonstrates how private-sector investment and nonprofit expertise can bring promising innovations to the communities that need them most.”
Corus’ project, Strengthening Early Warning, Infrastructure, and Rapid Response to Climate-Related Health Risks, will link climate and health data with disease surveillance and emergency response systems in Nepal’s Karnali and Lumbini provinces. The program is expected to help 70 health facilities and more than 150,000 people better prepare for floods, heatwaves, disease outbreaks and other climate-related health emergencies.
Recent devastating floods in Nepal underscore the urgency of this work. The disaster is a stark reminder of how quickly climate-related hazards can become humanitarian and health emergencies — and why communities need strong data, systems and preparedness to anticipate risks and act before they escalate.
